A very tasteful solution to a difficult lighting situation. I also think the people add a lot to the image. Well done!
Consider cropping the top at just above the top of the arches. That leaves more to the imagination and, ironically, emphasizes the height of the room. It also eliminates the part of the image that is the most out of focus. (I actually wonder why that part of the image is out of focus when the detailed background that seems to be much farther away is sharp.)
