I don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but I spent a bit of time 'scratching an itch' , metaphorically speaking, that has been bugging me for years .
All I want to do is rename print/paper ICC profiles, suplied by vendors to someting I was a bit more comfortable with.
eg I would prefer to rename 'IGGFS13_EPR2400_PSPPn ' to 'Ilford Gold Fibre Silk'
It can be done on Mac (using the ColorSync app?), but there does not appear to be anything out there for PC.
Eventually, I found a single free utility 'ICC Profile Toolkit', ( developed about 12 years ago as far as I can determine), which does the job, and can be downloaded from the link below: -

It works on my Windows 8/CS6 setup, but I suggest the following sequence:-
1) download and install the .msi file into its own folder on any drive you wish.
2) copy the icc profiles you wish to rename to a new 'edit' folder. (I would also recommend making an archive copy in case you needs to restore the original names.)
3) run the program ' ChangeDescription.exe' from the installation folder just created, and select each icc profile in turn from the 'edit' folder.
4) When you open each profile you will then be able to see and edit the current 'description'/name and change it to whatever you want. BUT , make sure you save first before moving to another profile.
5) Once you have edited all the profiles, you can copy them back to the source folder.
