    Agra Fort - Palace Room

Just a few km from that city's famous Taj Mahal is the 16th century Agra Fort; the cities other UNESCO World Heritage Site. Calling the place a "fort" is rather misleading at best, as it is really a fortified royal residence, full of beautiful buildings and rooms.

This shot is of one of those rooms. I decided to take a fairly symmetrical view of it, and unfortunately, there is a door leading to the outside right in the middle. I waited until someone came through the door to take this picture to partially hide the bright (but not blown out) opening in the wall. This achieved something else,. it also shows the scale of the room and adds a bit of warmth to an otherwise fairly sterile looking room.

I decided to go monochrome in this image, because the room is actually rather monochrome in the colour original. I used contrast to bring out the wonderful carvings and then converted it to a warm tone to give it more of an antique look.

One issue with this site is that the Indian military uses parts of it and that means some fairly considerable sections of the fort are off-limits to the public. This is really too bad.

+1 to Binnur's comment...I also like the sepia look of it.
