    Christmas Lights - Parliament Hill

I did get back to reshoot the Christmas Sound & Light show on Parliament Hill a couple of days ago. Showing up at just before 23:00 / 11:00 PM worked as the crowds were a lot smaller and I got to position my camera exactly where I wanted to. This is a +1 0 -1 composite image.

The only problem is that I must have hit the wrong control and the images taken were all "Basic" i.e. lowest quality jpegs. So to all of the people out there that tell the world raw is the only way to go... With the first winter storm of the season coming through tonight with an estimated 25 - 30cm / 10 - 12inches of snow, I might be out again tomorrow to try for a reshoot with snow on the ground.

    Christmas Lights - Parliament Hill

    Exposures of 1, 2 and 5 sec at f/8 at ISO 500 using the f/3.5 24mm PC-E Nikkor lens using the D800.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

Got to be viewed full size in the Lightbox. Super image of an amazing spectacle.

Manfred that is just the type of image I want, however it looks like the earliest I could make it is after the lights get turned off. Well there is always next winter.

    Cheers: Allan

It's not the easiest place to get a good shot because it is such a popular site and there are always tons of people around. The best shooting I've had twice now is Boxing Day after 10:00PM, as fewer people tend to be there. I suspect cold / bad weather on other days might work out as well.

That's not much of an issue for me as I'm less than 30 minutes away by car, but more problematic for you with the distance involved.

However...it will be nice when the snow kicks in...just the thought of comparing the rain in the last three days here in the Midwest, if we had snow instead of rain, it would have been 18" high but then there is no point comparing water to snow...they are different. Good shot! I like the composition and the blues.
