    Agawa Canyon - revisited

I posted some images shot at the Agawa Canyon in the Algoma district of Canada back in October when I was visiting there. I have made some significant changes to my processing style since then so I worked on an image I had not posted previously.

This shot is taken from a lower elevation than the earlier image.

Nice effort, that water is like glass, that's an oddly shaped shadow on the surface.

It is indeed, the cause is an area of still water that is quite reflective surrounded by water that is rippling and blurring the reflection.

Very nice shot, Manfred. Is it the use of luminosity masks or something else that has changed?

No, I've mostly just gone over to using a very light touch on Nik Pro Contrast on these images. I've started to be much more subtle in some of my settings and edits.

I don't perceive any fundamental change in style but I sure do like this one. Vibrant but natural colors.

Mike - that is the change. The colours are much more natural than in some of my previous work, without losing any of the "pop" that I like so much. I find that I really don't like some of my skies and colour from last year. Just too over the top.

Dark green + light green + yellow + orange = great combination of colors

Very lovely and am interested how your style has changed. This image almost has a 'modelling' feel to it.

I had to look up where the Agawa Canyon is - we're coming to Montreal in June to see my son and are planning a road trip from there for 7-10 days so this looks a possibility if we drive west rather than east.

That's glorious Manfred and what a nice part of the world (probably not so cuddly in mid winter I guess). Looks similar to Austrian or Swiss landscape. I agree, particularly with actions like dodging and burning, lots of progressive small adjustment are better than a more impatient approach.

It's a nice one, Manfred. Well composed and I'd say your PP worked well. Lovely colors.

On my monitor, going back and forth between the current image and the linked image,
I'm liking your current PP better.

Kaye - it's a long way from Montreal (around 1000km / 600 miles), so a good 11 hours of pretty well non-stop driving, so perhaps not the best use of time if you are only traveling for a week or 10 days. The area is decidedly less interesting when the leaves are all the same colour (green), but it is certainly an interesting trip in early October.

As your son is in Montreal, I assume you've been in the area before? There are plenty of places that are closer and absolutely gorgeous. If you have not been to the Charlevoix region of Quebec yet (Baie St Paul to La Malbaie) on the north shore of the St Lawrence River, a couple of hours east of Quebec City, might I suggest you look at that (about half the drive of getting to Sault Ste Marie) It is one of our favourite places in Quebec (magnificent steep hills carved out by a meteor impact make for a stunning landscape, great food and ambiance). The Eastern Townships (south-east of Montreal) are also worth the visit. Around 90 minutes north and you are in the Laurentian Mountains.

Thanks Manfred. This is my first trip as my son only moved there late last year, so all ideas well received. He and his wife also have some so we're pooling it all at present and will look to put an itinerary together in a couple of weeks. Trouble is I am so used to wandering about in our motorhome, that actually planning something again is a challenge !!
