Dominion Arboretum - Ottawa
Yesterday afternoon, I went for a walk through the Dominion Arboretum of the Central Experimental Farm by Dows Lake in Ottawa. I was on my way to the tulip beds of the 71st Tulip Festival located at Commissioner Park nearby. It was cold, cloudy and very windy and the park was crowded with tourists which made it difficult to get good pictures of the tulips. The ones that I managed to get will need a significant amount of pp before I can display them here. However, I did manage to get a few photos at the arboretum.
I would appreciate your critique of these shots particularly from a composition point of view.

Nice series, especially liking the first.
Re: Dominion Arboretum - Ottawa
My fav is #1 too, very nice composition and I love the vibrant green color of the water :) #2 is my second preference compositionally. I think the half cropped bridge spoils the composition in #4. If you had shot #5 from a higher point IMO the composition would have looked much better . The bushes in the FG covers too much space and they don't let us see the scene properly.
#3 is a flower shot and different from the other images.IMO out of focus part needs some more blur as the BG looks very busy.

Hi Andre,
Binnur has mentioned almost everything I was thinking of saying (both positive and negative), which has saved me some typing :)
The only thing left is that with #3, I'd crop some off the lower edge - there's not much happening down there.
Cheers, Dave
Re: Dominion Arboretum - Ottawa
Thanks John, #1 is also my favorite closely followed by #2.
Binnur and Dave - I think that you have accurately identified the problems with #4 and #5. I will not repeat those mistakes in the future.
I have reworked #3 following your suggestions. I darkened the background as well as blurring it some more and settled on a 4 x 5 crop factor. Here is the revised version. I think it is much better. What do you think?

Again thanks for your valued criticism.

I prefer #2 and #3 even if the others also looks good. All the negatives have already been identified so I will it a rest too.
P.S. It is always nice to get away from what the others are looking at and make your own images.
Re: Dominion Arboretum - Ottawa
Looks like a great place to spend some time.
Re: Dominion Arboretum - Ottawa
Certainly looks better :)
