About William W
- Biography:
- William has tertiary qualifications in Still Photography; Cinematography; Telecast and Broadcast Engineering and has many years professional experience in those disciplines.
He also is professionally competent in Stage Lighting; Stage Management; Journalism and Technical Production. He has studied Business Theory and Practice and other subjects; he values education in all forms.
He sold his first Photograph in 1975, (a record jacket cover) and he started working as a wedding photographer whilst he was a college student in 1976 and a year later opened a photography studio with his business partner and that partnership subsequently built three studios which also comprised some commercial and location work. William has taught photographic theory and practice at colleges and also his business conducted instruction and master classes at the studios.
In 1994 William was awarded a PhD for his Thesis - Impact of Still Photography as used in Advertising – post WWII to Present Day.
After moving on from his last studio he was employed by the new owner to refit it to a fully digital workflow in 2004/5. In some form, still photography has provided income (and enjoyment) since 1975 and William continues to work pro bono for various Sporting Clubs and Schools whilst also maintaining a professional interest in portraiture; photo-restoration; and (especially) forensic analysis of images and he also tutors students.
William was a resident judge for several local institutions and has been an invited judge for other competitions. He has been fortunate enough to have worked for large organizations and has covered some big local and international gigs, including Commonwealth and Olympic Games, along that path he has found a collegiate of like minded photographers, technical and artistic people, whom he greatly values.
A special note about CiC: William visits CiC when time permits. The tutorials here are a source of reference to which William directs many Students and Photographers. His goal here is to provide articulate and precise written contributions for the improvement of others’ knowledge and skill levels: but moreover to learn, himself. William reads much more here than he writes. He has a precise and literal writing style without emotive subtext.
A special note about the people who have most provided William assistance in bettering himself at The Craft - (specifically 2004 to 2016 and beyond - the Canon Digital EOS era):
Neil Ambrose for his gifted and most talented personal tutoring apropos Picture Stories;
(late) Nadine Ohara for her knowledge, vast experience and practical applications of Canon EOS Cameras & Speedlites apropos Event Photography and also her special personal friendship;
Colin Southern for his seemingly endless knowledge of Digital Post Production Techniques and for the peace his landscape works provide;
Marc Williams for his continuous, beautiful, visionary conceptions of Wedding Photography and his excellent business mind.
William also manages a Company and sits an Advisory Board which are both unrelated to his photography activities. He resides in Australia, married and has two adult children. He enjoys in no particular priority: music, cooking, all sports, conversation and debate on all topics, wine and attempting to be a better pianist and also to spend more time riding his road bike.
William sincerely looks for effort in every endeavour to achieve a personal best: moreover he greatly admires others who get back in to improve upon their own personal best.
