what are a set of panel prints

    Hi All
Not been on for a while and have just joined a local camera club and want to enter club comps.
There is a comp comming up which requires 3 prints to make a panel, however not wanting to make myself look a fool in front of others at the meeting i wondered what your thoughts were on how to do them.
    Is it
    A. a photo taken and broken down into 3 seperate prints so they run together
    B. 3 seperate pics that run together to tell a story
    C. Something else

I wonder why beginners are always afraid to ask these questions as we all have to learn somewhwere and the club memebers really seem pleasant.

    Kind regards
    Tony

Take a leap of faith, Tony, and ask your fellow members. Remember that there are no silly questions, only silly answers. Besides, if they are not the type of people to answer your questions without belittling you, I would question whether they are the right type of people to help.... everyone has to start the learning process somewhere....

Lastly, with my tongue jammed firmly in my cheek, those that think they know it all irritate those of us that do

    Hey Tony,
I am no pro by any means but I think that it means 3 pictures taken of a scene in three stages so as the three make a whole. Also IMHO I think three that have been taken vertically and placed side by side look the best. If I am wrong someone with more knowledge will be along to get it straight. Hope this helps you out some.

    Hi Tony,
I totally agree with Scott about asking at the club.

But... as far as i know Panel Prints are also called "Triptych" prints which is basically a set of three associated artistic works intended to be appreciated together.

So it could be an image split into three panels which can be viewed together to see the whole image, or it could mean three different images connected by a theme.

    Hope this helps?

What goes in a triptych is whatever YOU think should go in. In photography there are no rules, remember?

    Greetings Tony,

Was once a member of Lincoln Camera Club, so can relate to a slight reluctance to ask naive questions of them Yellowbellies ;-).

Looks like "triptych" implies related images, rather than one split in three:

    Triptych: (cf. wikipedia)

a work of art (usually a panel painting) which is divided into three sections, or three carved panels which are hinged together and can be folded shut or displayed open. The middle panel is typically the largest and it is flanked by two smaller related works, although there are triptychs of equal-sized panels.

    best rgds,

    Ted
