At one moment the road passes near a huge wall which being near such a narrow road seems to be higher than in reality.Behind,St.Peter and Paul Ostritza Metoh is hidden."Metoh" means that this convent is under the rule of another Orthodox settlement. It says that it is one of the four monasteries which survived to the Ottoman conquest

Getting inside, the visitors will discover the pronaos(an Orthodox church has pronaos ,naos and altar, between altar and naos is catapetasma- an altar screen)

Through that low entrance, which forces the visitor to incline himself(in front of the greatness of the God),it passes into the naos. You see it from the altar

PS-Looking at the past,I thought that in the early years of the new Kingdom of Bulgaria,at the Ottoman border, the nowadays concept of religious tolerance, which is in Europe after WW2 especially, was known here, because in 1909,at Sofia the synagogue was built, before Orthodox cathedral! In the same year the Ottomans massacred Armenians at Adana.

This place is known as an Orthodox settlement from 10th c.when here lived the hermit Ivan Rilsky(I presume this is English transliteration of his name)

Yes,here,it was combined a kind of folly with a mad trick on a deep religious background and a need of revival which impressed me so I tried to stress this direction.I'm not sure if my English tells you exactly what I felt, but I'm glad the shots did. Thanks for your interest.
