Sparkling water for me im afraid both coke and pepsi suck!![]()
Out of the tap for me thanks.
I think the reason people buy any kind of technology should be because it does what they want to do PLUS gives some margin for learning more up-to-date features. And, when I began looking at DSLRs, two of my previous five cameras had been Canons, one had been Kodak (a 210), and two had been Sonys. So, I looked at Canons and Sonys for the DSLRs. At that time, Sony had, for me, the terrific advantage that my last two non-digital cameras had been Minolta Maxxums and the lenses from my Maxxums would fit anything in the Sony alpha line. So, I was able to swing an alpha 700 camera body, and the seller throw in the kit lens without charging me additional $$. Now I have three kit lenses that are all Minolta-built with identical properties. ;~(
But, that allowed me to buy what was their top of the line alpha DSLR. If I'd bought another vendor's body, I would have had to buy a middle of the line equivalent in the other vendor's DSLR line because of the extra $$ to provide a lens that would complete it. And, I never would have had a slew of lenses to choose from when I'm in the field shooting whatever.
And, now I've gone back and learned a lot more about my camera with the different lenses, so having room to grow my skills has really worked.
I follow the same general process for TVs, computers, monitors, etc. I generally DON'T follow it for kitchen appliances where I want "plain" for my refrigerator, not double doors, frozen on top, and not an ice/water dispenser. I've not become so feeble that I can't fill a refillable bottle or bottles with water and put it in the refrigerator to chill; I don't have to worry about kids opening the door and wondering what to choose; and so forth.
JMHO.

1 - To be or not to be?
2 - Get married or stay single?
3 - To have or not to have children?
4 - Nikon or Canon?
Surely, these are the main questions that appear on a person's life.
In my case:
1 – To be ("Cogito ergo sum");
2 - To Marry (I'm married and very happy);
3 – To have children (I have three children);
4 – I don't know. This was the hardest question to answer (until this thread).
I had this doubt for a long time: if the sensors of Nikon are much better than Canon sensors (better DxO scores), why so many people buy Canon cameras?
a- The lowest-price? I think not, because for these brands, the prices of the equipment of the same category are almost equal.
b- best lenses? I think not. The quality of the lenses of both manufacturers is very good, in general, is equivalent.
c- Ease of use? Maybe, but I think it's a matter of photographer get used to the camera. Furthermore, Nikon has as many users as the Canon.
d- Status? I believe that are equivalent.
The truth is: "more important than the camera is the person behind the camera (and who bought the camera)".
Nikon or Canon? Canon or Nikon? Oh, cruel doubt ... (so it is the most difficult question to answer).
There must be some mysterious reason for so many people prefer Canon cameras.
But let's get to my problem:
A- I want to buy a DLSR for me (an APS-C as Nikon D5100/D5200 or Canon Rebel T3i/T4i);
B- I have two good compact camera (a Nikon and a Canon, that is, I live in two antagonistic worlds).
i- My Canon S100 camera is a very small (it fits in a shirt pocket or pants and so is always with me), that shoots very well (even in low-light locations), the zoom range is 24mm to 120mm FFE, has a maximum aperture of f/2, shoots RAW and has full manual controls and image stabilization. The most important: the Nikon has no camera with the same features.
ii- My Nikon P510 is a fantastic superzoom camera that shoots very well (even in places with less light), the zoom range is 24mm to 1000mm FFE; it has a maximum aperture of f/3, has full manual controls and and image stabilization. However, the Canon has an option: the SX50 camera shoots RAW, the zoom range is 24 to 1200 mm FFE and it seems to be slightly better than the P510.
The solution seems simple: I sell the P510 and buy a SX50 and a Rebel T3i/T4i. So I get three cameras from the same manufacturer, which has similar controls and menus.
But, and the question of DxO sensor rating? Is it worth I investing in a DSLR that theoretically has a lower image quality only to have similar controls and menus?
I had these doubts until I read this thread.
I read all the posts with pros and against the Nikon and Canon and now I know exactly what to do.
Many thanks to BradSut26 for having asked the question I wanted to do.
Many thanks to others for their comments and considerations.
Sincerely,
Antonio.
well i stopped drinking coke/pepsi years ago .....think it was the cleaning of copper that did it i dont eat big macs or burger kings either
Very interesting this comparison: Nikon x Canon ... Coke x Pepsi.
Which is Coke? Which is Canon?
Which I prefer? Neither, I prefer orange juice.

Over the years I've used 13 brands of camera in 9 different formats and I have pictures from all of them that I have no problem hanging on my wall.
I chose my current brand based on the fact that at that time they were the only manufacturer producing a camera that matched my requirements at a price within my budget.
Having now invested in a couple of bottles to go on the front of that one it is little surprise than I have just bought a second body from the same company.
I've seen better images than mine taken with other brands but that has far more to do with opportunity, planning and practice than the name engraved on their tools.
I've also seen far worse taken by people who have equipment that I could only dream of owning, but that's another story.
I'm sorry 'BradSut26', but not only do I not understand, what you're saying, but there are no photos posted.
And, don't you think after 4 pages of answers to your original question, that there are a number of good reasons why a person may opt for a Canon?
OK. I'm sorry. I'm not knowledgeable enough to answer here anymore, so I'll leave the technical stuff up to those more qualified. I'd prefer to be practicing photography with my inferior camera, than continue here.
I do know that it's very frustrating trying to converse with someone who keeps bringing up the same point, over, and over, and over, with total disregard for what a slew of people have said over the last few days. Again, I'm not sure if the purpose of this thread was to provoke, but it certainly wasn't to achieve an answer as originally intended. Because after 4 pages of responses, you should have got that.
That's not a turkey, that's a one trick pony.
Brad, You made your point over what YOU consider to be an important parameter in the choosing of your preferred tool with which to take your personal images with.
Page one - original post (through the link) and a couple of posts later on ('I personally think to stops of light is pretty important').
We get it, we understand. YOU like a certain factor, YOU think it is important. And I am happy that you have such well defined parameters that are within your ability to solve.
Some of us (most of us) have different parameters (mainly different from each other). We celebrate the diversity and do not wish to be a fanboy about any particular brand.
Me, I don't care. Most of use don't care about the dynamic rane as much as you do. We understand and have discussed other points as well.
Have a good time in the forums and post some images and discuss them and I will be happy to discuss with you and all can improve. If YOUR preference shows a demonstrable difference in the images the rest of us take, I would be very much surprised.
Graham
Happy with his camera as it does most everything he wants it to).
By this measure, Brad, why would anyone ever shoot a Hassey or a Phase One. They are also "weaker" than the D800 according to DxO. I think you really do not understand photography (as a whole) very well. Sorry.
For Sale : Nikon D300, various lenses and flash gear all in mint condition. Reason for sale, upgrading to something that I'm advised is technically better but do not really need as it will not make the slightest improvement to my photography
Sorry, not really selling it![]()
