A line drawn in the glass

Ahhhhhhhhh. Now I understand what you're asking. Thanks for taking the time to clarify your question -- an no apologies are needed!

The areas that you highlighted in your first alteration are slightly darker because that's the result of how the glass is made. I don't understand the reasons enough to predict where a glass object will display that characteristic (slightly darker areas than other areas) but it always happens. I rotate the object until it displays an array of patterns and tonalities that are pleasing to me without understanding why they change. I only know that if a particular object was made uniformly throughout, rotating it would not produce any changes.

The lines that you highlighted in your second alteration are the horizon line. We are viewing that line through the glass vessels, which are refracting the light. Refraction always occurs anytime we view anything through a glass object that is curved. Thus, the horizon line is "bent."

Similarly, the diagonal line created by the bottom of the clear plexiglass is seen through the vessel on the right. Though that line when viewed through the vessel is relatively straight, notice that it's angle has changed. That's due to the refraction caused by viewing it through the glass vessel.
