Broken wine glass from South Africa on its side

When I posted this photo of the broken wine glass that I brought back from South Africa, Bruce suggested that it might look better on its side. First I tried compositions with no other wine glasses. Thanks to my collection of broken glasses, I then tried several combinations. I also tried various looks produced by using black acrylic and glass tabletops. Fourteen tries later, I am finally happy with this one (and only this one).

Thanks, Bruce! Sorry that it took me so long to properly execute your very nice idea.

The single upright glass is still my favourite... Even though this is beautifully photographed.

Fortunately it looks as if no alcohol was harmed in the filming.
As well, I like both of your images.

As always, the lighting is terrific. I can well understand your thinking about this being one with which you are satisfied. I think it's a superb still life. The arrangement/composition is sublime. For me all the parts are in just the right place.

Mike, what would this photo look like with broken pieces of glass with the wine glass on the right?

You just had to ask. Ever since I made this photo I have been contemplating breaking a cheap glass so I can make exactly the kind of photo that you suggest. As if I don't already break enough of them accidentally, now I've got to break them intentionally.

    Very bacchanalian, Mike.

[For some reason, this shot reminds me of the lyrics in an early Bob Dylan song, Restless Farewell : 'but the bottles are done / we've killed each one' ]

I particularly like the curvey reflection in the glass on the left.

Thanks, Greg. If the macro lens on my Christmas wish list comes to be, I'm thinking of photographing that refraction to make an abstract.

How about a Yin and Yang version... Beautiful perfect almost ethereal glasses on one side of the image, and broken, miserable, malcontent glasses on the other side, in perfect symmetry or not.

I have added Bruce's, Christina's and Greg's ideas to my shot list. It may be awhile before I get to them, but I will eventually give them a try. Thank you!

Yes great shot. You are getting to a point where all you will need is 1 shot. Congrats.
