    Did Santa Come early!

Was wondering if anyone got some camera goodies early for Christmas. For me nothing to brag about but I did at last get a Tokina 11-16 lens (long over due and a Bower power zoom flash (SFD926S) for my DSLR. Not done much experimenting with the flash but have so with the lens and I have to say I'm loving it. Love the constant F/2.8 aperture. The lens feels durable, rugged with a strong construction. I will know more about how it shoots as time goes on but for now it rounds out my lens stable

I have that lens and I love it, Paul!

I did get an early Christmas goodie but it is a bit unusual for this forum. It is a Safesky Wireless inspection camera. The lens is at the end of a three foot flexible tube and contains its own LED lighting in a 9mm head. The 300,000 pixel color image is viewed on a 3.5''LCD Color Monitor that can wirelessly be viewed from a distance. It can both live view and record both images and video on an SD card. It can be very handy for viewing behind or under appliances for leaks or lost objects, inside walls, heating ducts, or anyplace where you can snake the tube into, and being waterproof, can probe inside water filled plumbing pipes for obstructions. Not much is the way of typical camera controls but it does auto-focus.

    Me, too.

Santa did come early and left a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fibre (3 leg section) tripod. But he's hidden it somewhere in the house and I'm not allowed to get it until Christmas morning. What he doesn't appreciate is that I might get a serious back injury hauling the aluminium version, which I've got, around until then!

Of course, my darling wife would never do such a thing.

ps: Frank - Look forward to seeing some of the images posted on CiC. Never seen the inside of a blocked drain.

Feisol CT-3372LV thee-section carbon fibre tripod (very super rigid that hits over 150 cm (almost 60") without a column and 193cm (76") with one) has arrived and the RRS BH-55 LR should be arriving next week (has cleared customs in Canada).

Ball head was delivered today (Sunday) - Canada Post does Sunday deliveries leading up to Christmas!

    Re: Did Santa Come early!

I treated myself to my 6th Canon 600EX-RT flash, but it was 2nd hand, so not sure if that counts!

The new Canon 200-400 + 1.4x has been shouting in my ear though!

He came really early around here. In time for our trip to Australia he delivered a Nikkor 70-200 f4 lens and a Surui four section carbon fiber tripod that weighs less than a kg, head included.

Richard, you're wife must be getting all the credit for the maltese rescue

At least Richard's gift came with a bow.

I spent about two hours a week ago looking for anything that might help me hold stuff such as reflectors, mirrors, diffusers and flags in my makeshift studio. I had no idea what to look for because I had no idea what exists. I only knew that I needed some sort of clamps that could be attached to something flexible that could then be attached to my tripod, light stands and/or tabletop. Fortunately, Santa has all that stuff listed on the Internet and it arrived a few days ago:

3 pairs of clamps (One clamp attaches to the tabletop. The other clamp swivels and holds whatever I want it to hold.)
1 clamp that attaches to a light stand or flexible arm that bends every way imaginable
    1 flexible arm mentioned above
1 super clamp that attaches to the tabletop, tripod, pole or light stand and has receptacles that allow attaching seemingly any standard studio device including another super clamp or the flexible arm mentioned above

Christmas came about two and a half months early when I found a deal on a used 1D mkIII, thanks to a buddy in a camera repair shop. Definitely owe him a pint. Christmas may come again, since a fellow derby photographer is selling off his AB800 strobes for $200 apiece to fund his Einstein upgrade. At $200 a pop, it may be time for me to start experimenting with big lights. Like Colin, I'm a huge 600EX-RT fan (own two), but they have their limits.

I tried some AB (and opted for the Einsteins instead). With the type of work you do, I think you will find them a fantastic addition to your kit. I would suggest saving up for a Vagabond Mini Lithium battery pack as well as radio triggers. Wonderful for shooting in locations where you don't want to trip over extension cords or synch cables.

I assume he will be keeping his light stands and softboxes? Don't forget about the sandbags too.
