    First try at bird photography

Hi guys,i was fooling about around my back garden with my camera when i noticed this little guy on a neighbours roof, about the size of a sparrow, and was not very photogenic, jumped all over the place every time i went to press the shutter lol, does anyone know what he-she is?

    Cheers David

I'm afraid I don't know the bird but I am familiar with their tendency to jump every time one is about to release the shutter!
    Nice image!

Pretty sure it's a black redstart (a bit puffed up). They overwinter in southern Anatolia. Can see the red underside of the tail.

Great capture, and the wonderful oranges work very well with him (her?) to help make it very successful.

You are welcome. By coincidence, my wife has just got back from a week's holiday in your part of the world. I think she has just about thawed out!

Hello David, I think you did good. Ideally you would like the eye showing more rather than being in a shadow. I would try dodging the eye area or opening up the shadows in post processing to see how that looks. Nice little bird with it's feathers puffed up, probably trying to keep warm.

What a beautiful bokeh for a bird photograph; i really like this; eye is not in complete focus i feel; even then this is a very classic beginning for this subject

Thanks Joe for commenting, you guys make it look that easy,i had taken about 40 shots of this little guy and this was the only one with a bit of eye in it lol.I will give the dodging a try later.

An excellent first crack at it. Some of the detail things have already been pointed out by others.
