On my monitor it looked ok,i never selected anything,i just globaly opened up the shadows as i felt it only needed a minor tweek but hey ho i suppose all our eye sights are different!

Terrible is a bit harsh. I just think you have just been a bit over enthusiastic with your corrections. Often I copy the image to another layer, slightly overdo the adjustments and then reduce the transparency until I get a suitable compromise.
The crop does look better but I would have to say that anyway....

Ah yes, David. Running the diagonals into the corners improves the composition IMHO. Well done.
