My, But you're a tall one!

The colors, though a bit vibrant, are pretty much SOOC. I did, however, lighten the foreground as it was in fairly dark shadow. I couldn't find a crop that I liked so this is full frame.

This is in Zion National Park which is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah.

My, But you're a tall one!

I'm getting really low on previously ignored images to post. I hope it warms up soon so that I can get out to shoot some more!

First things first - nice image. But we cannot expect less from you.

Luckier than you on unprocessed images, still tons to get through. But unlike you, I did go out a few times in this horrendous cold. Nothing much recently but did get rewarded with a week of bed rest from a bad flu. Just getting over it now.

Don't be such a wimp. I want to hold that label all to myself.

That little bit of tree branch up in the top right corner?

Does it need the same clone brush as you used on the blonde?

    Frank,

Nice image but I can understand your dilemma with the crop.

The only crop I could see was one that would perhaps exaggerate the height with something more prominent to gauge it against and that being the three pines just below centre. Cropping below those pines may work but I'm sure you would have tried that already.

Cropping is not one of my strong points (along with many others) so I'm trying to take a bit more interest in it these days.

Hi Frank, what does SOOC represent for? I also wonder, would it help if you used let's say a 3 grad.ND filter for your midday shots. They are very nice but they all suffer from harsh light conditions as far as my inexperienced eyes can see.You would be able to balance your exposure with a grad ND..Would experts please correct me if I'm wrong?

Nicely done, the curve of the shadow has just the right level of tone. However, the ridge immediately afterward should have some level of gradient (as Binnur alluded to) leading up to the sky area.

Binnur, I think SOOC = straight out of camera.
Zion is a gorgeous place. Maybe this is one of those, just look at me and enjoy the view.
I don't have any filters yet, so can't help on the above suggestion.

Thank you for the comments, Bobo. I only hope I can live up the misguided lofty expectations you have!

I hope you'll be up and about under full steam and feeling great again soon as I'm looking forward to you next set of postings!

Your wisdom is my command gracious sir:

You are still concerned about that poor blonde girl driving the car in the other image?

OK. Here it the scene with the girl in the car. While you are googling the blonde, don't forget to check her eye colour!

Thank you for responding with you thoughts Grahame!

I thought the shadow area provided and interesting counter-point to the more brightly lit areas above and helped provide leading lines to follow while exploring the details. However, I am always open to alternatives so please feel free to play with the image and post your results if you would like.

Re: My, But you're a tall one!

I appreciate you input Binnur, John, and Nancy! Yes, SOOC is Straight Out Of Camera but because we can't post images full size, that usually assumes some reduction in image size which often requires an associated output sharpening.

These shots were taken years ago - long before I had a decent camera or any knowledge of ND filters. I can try that approach going forward, however, and am encouraged by what other's have posted using ND filters her at CiC.

I'm not too sure how you would make the suggested changes John so I am including the original in case you wanted to have a go at it?

Re: My, But you're a tall one!

I've reworked the image to add a subtle vignetting.

My, But you're a tall one!

If this helps, I'll try it on some of the other recent images as well.
