IMO on a shot like this where the tail ends up doesn't matter. The eyes are what draws the attention and the image can be composed around them. The bottom and right side are just dead space. Add as much or as little as necessary to place the head/eyes where you want them in the frame and taking up as much of the image as desired. If you're there as is then you're there. But that would be selfish not letting us viewers see as much detail as possible in that cool looking face

The reason I asked is that if I take the straight conversion and white balance it to match the 2nd image the birds brown comes out at a much darker shade. I'm curious how problems like that are solved?

Thanks John - I found the same problem. Just now upgraded to the latest Camera RAW 8.4 RC and clicking a white area no longer causes the bird to go dark.
