    First flower Bloodroot

Sanguinaria canadensis, my first photo of a flower outside this spring. The red sap from the underground stem was used by the Native Americans as a dye for baskets, clothing, and war paint,as well as insect repellent. It was raining on and off so I was wearing a rain poncho, no tripod.Walking in the wood I spotted this beauty on the side of the trail. To get the picture while dealing with the poncho, trying not to step off the trail and getting down to its level without neeling in water poodles, to what length one will go to take a picture? I like the fresh look of just opened flower and the rain drops on the petals. Your comments are always appreciated.First flower Bloodroot

Just the right amount of blur. And thank you for reminding me that I have a poncho and can use it to do my background...I really appreciate the tip very much.

Izzie thank you for your comment. Many things can be used for a background. If the plant is at mid chest, I have asked my companion to stand behind the plant on account of his green t-shirt. He is also quite accommodating to hold reflectors and flashes.

In short, he was your mule. I had one yesterday at the airshow...his title is "hubby...he got an important phone call from one of his board members who asked if it was the right time for him to call. He said, no -- I'll call you later. I am a mule for these two days in a row. Isn't it nice when you got a partner who can make you laugh and smile? I make sure I hand him a little piece of chocolate when he is mad at the world sometimes..

I am happy to say that he is a good teacher as well, and a lot of fun too. I appreciate you good humour.
