Mono for me John because I like mono I guess but also in this case, because red is a dominant colour and the hydrant distracts from the people in the colour version. A good example (for me) of where mono conversion adds something.

B&W seems to work better for street photography.

I like colour more but B&W makes a street scene more interesting to me.

John, your focus point seems to be several feet behind the lady and son...near the bench/blue pole/tree area, resulting in a soft lady/son...was that your intention, or is it my vision?

Chauncey, Your eyes are fine, they were pacing so much that I miss timed the shot. I had another one but the woman was blocked by the pole.

I just wonder if a crop from the right side to remove at least half of the car might help to concentrate more on the people.

    Geoff,

Always worth a try. Were you referring to the color or mono shot? In the mono shot, it places the people centrally within the image and they sort of get lost. I can manipulate the image to emphasize the people but it may not look realistic.

I like that crop, John. Although the closest people are perhaps centrally placed there is sufficient activity on either side to create balanced areas of interest. And without being distracted by looking along the street. I'm noticing more about the scene now.

    Geoff,

Added correct crop of color version to post #13.

John, much prefer the B&W, not just because it's street photography but because it eliminates colors and allows one to focus on the scene itself. This being said, I'd suggest cropping a bit off the bottom and the left, move the two females to left of center. The guy leaning on the car on his phone adds much to the scene.
