    Killin' Time

I arrived at Blackpool beach early last night to make sure I got a parking place near to where I wanted to shoot the fireworks display in the evening.

With a bit of time to spare I sat on the seafront, feeding chips to the seagulls and then decided to have a mess around with my camera on a tripod with a neutral density filter, panning the camera during a long exposure.

    Killin' Time
Then I started trying to pan slowly with people in the frame.

    Killin' Time
A bit different from my usual work but quite fun and I think it might have some potential for the future.

    Any thoughts?

I have to admit, I'm intrigued by the possibilities in some locations that don't offer distinct points of interest.

It feels like a distillation of the colour palette and lighting but still retains a hint of location.

Very well right… this is a great approach to a somehow abstract way to
render reality. The two in a complementary balance where the colour palette
is as revealing as the shapes. Brilliant!

#1 is absolutely beautiful! It looks like a fine painting. This would make such a great wall hanging, so peaceful and serene. The muted colors while still showing the landscape is so pleasing!

    Very, very well done!

You turned even an otherwise monotonous subject to a great piece of art; really great-with as well as without the inclusion of human forms

Like that Wayland, particularly the first one. Sort of a dream scene.

    Killin' Time

Nicely done, Wayland, I can see the first one printed large and displayed in a contemporary venue, well done.

I like the first one, Wayland, but I would like to see more sky in the second shot.

    Re: Killin' Time

These look great Gary. I remember seeing something along these lines in a gallery a couple of years ago. The photographer had made some large (3ft x 5ft / 90cm / 150cm) prints mounted under glass. The gallery told me that they were glicee prints, not ink jet prints; I asked what that was and was told it was a special printing process. Obviously they were caught up in the marketing jargon and were a bit incredulous when I told them that glicee = high end ink jet. I don't think they quite believed me.

Regardless, I had been meaning to try something like this, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Perhaps I will now that you have inspired me...

I have trouble with all that ArtSpeak stuff, it makes me want to gnaw my arm off when I hear it and I certainly try to avoid using it myself.

Someone put me onto this website for generating personal artist statements which is quite amusing.

    Re: Killin' Time

The first is lovely Gary. I'm a big fan of intentional camera movement. The technique is a bit hit and miss in terms of the right speed and the right amount of movement but you nailed both with this shot...

Two photographers who make some really nice images with this technique are Doug Chinnery and Chris Friel if you care to look them up. There are others but their names escape me at the moment.

    Re: Killin' Time

Nice shots, Wayland...now to my way of thinking...I wonder what you can come up with if you put your focus on manual and slowly turn it around while still focusing on the same subject of interest? Just curious...the hands of time stretches far and wide and play with our imagination as we savour our surrounding and tries to engulp us with its beauty...

(Back to bed, Izzie before you fall off the chair!!!)
