    Baddesley Clinton

I have spent quite a few days recently at some of our wonderful National Trust sites. This is Baddesley Clinton in Warwickshire, an old moated house for which there has been a footprint for a 1000 years. This house is mainly 16th century with amendments over the years just as we do today. As ever it was the little details that caught my eye rather than the big picture. Here are a few, C&C welcome.

1 - The Moat - which never prevented unwelcome guests but was effective as a fire break as the house was originally built in a clearing in the wood

    Baddesley Clinton

2 - The house used to have four sides, but one was knocked down to provide more light in the central courtyard

    Baddesley Clinton

    3 & 4 - some little details............

    Baddesley Clinton

    Baddesley Clinton

5 & 6 - moving inside some memories of the Victorian and early 20th century age

    Baddesley Clinton

    Baddesley Clinton

7 - Memories of those lost in the war..............

Very nice set Kaye, it looks like a wonderful place to visit. I particularly like what you've done in 6 and 7.

Last time I was there it was with a walking group and lots of people milling about. It's an interesting place. There are some clever priest holes inside used to hide Catholics when they were having problems.

Thanks for the comments. Kodiak, the problem with vertical adjustment is that in a house like this nothing is straight, I actually did do some adjustment to 3 but realised those mortar just don't follow the horizontal. I went for a straight bottom of the window in the end, but realise this means the top edge looks tilted - is it perhaps personal preference where to put the vertical in places such as these ?I'll look at the other processing suggestions - thanks for them

Here are the chimneys straightened - but to my eye they now look wonky !!

It was fairly quiet yesterday until I bumped into my great Niece, whose's 3 (and her Mum). Those priest holes are a bit small - we loved the coffin room too !! And for those of you who haven't been there, the coffin room is said to have housed the coffin for one of its inhabitants who bought before her death - rumours that she tried it for size occasionally are pure conjecture. It was empty yesterday you'll be pleased to hear.

Thanks Kodiak - I can see the improvement in the chimneys but the window is marginal !!
