    The Fisherman

Out again today playing with the 70-300 the intention of which had been capturing some rugby but that idea failed. As a consolation I managed shooting some kite surfing, a cruise liner, mountains and a sunset but these are by far my favourites.

The sun was low, in front and it was that magic time of day.

    No 1 - 1/1600s, f/7.1, ISO800, 140mm
    The Fisherman

    No 2 - 1/640s, f/7.1, ISO280, 155mm
    The Fisherman

    No 3 - 1/1000s, f/7.1, ISO450, 185mm
    The Fisherman

    No 4 - 1/1250s, f/7.1, ISO240, 240mm
    The Fisherman

I really like these Grahame. Love the color on the last one especially;wish there was a hint more light on his face (just IMO). Question - did you PP these in some special way to get this color? Txs

    Hi Kim,

They were all shot on Auto WB and did not quite represent how things were so I warmed up the WB in post to how I wanted it to look.

I did not attempt to bring the shadows out on any as with the bright sun behind him that's how it was and for me the shots are about action and light. For PP all I did was sharpen and use a Multiply layer at 50% on all.

I'll have another go at the original of this one Kodiak, it's worth getting right.

This is a very nice series, but as a series I would have preferred consistent colours. Each one has nice colours but the colours in #2 appeal to me most.

For me, the light, colors, the elongated net helping to hold interest in the wide composition, make No. 2 my favorite of a nice series.

#1 and #2 for me Grahame...when I first saw #1, I just wow-ed at the shot and the follow up on #2 is very very good. Love the light, love the action, love the shots. It feels to me that what you got is a dance of everything and in between.

    Hi Grahame,

My absolute favourite is the 2nd image for the moment captured and the sense of space. Indeed he looks like he is dancing with the fishing net. I also love the water droplets running off of his heal, and the gorgeous light on the net.

    Lovely!

Very nice shots Grahame. The compositions are nice but IMO light adds a lot to the images

Thanks Tony, the colour variations I suspect are mainly due to the difference in angles the shots were taken from the sun and the changing light. When I have time I am going to re-work these each from the RAW but would not intentionally try to make them all match.

Thank you Tom, I did resist cropping No 2 as I like the space there.

Hi Izzie, thanks for the 'wow-ed'

It was the dance with the throw of the net that appealed so much, there's quite an art to throwing these. The hard thing was anticipating which way the net was going to go

PS, will reply to your PM.

Hi Christina, thanks, I would have loved to get more like No 2 with him in front of the net but the only other chances I had were with the sun directly in line which made it impossible.

I'll be back at this location as it's not far looking for more of these I did remain there until the sun was way down but the cloud was not on my side.
