    My golf course

I was asked to take some photographs for my golf club for a little booklet they are producing. Below are four of the landscape format I took.

I sent them to the club and then checked on how they were going only to be shown the layout and they were just going to crop them to portrait. In horror I dashed around and took some more in portrait format. Some of the landscape versions could be cropped satisfactorily but in future I will be far more careful in finding out the requirements. I made an assumption that I never would have if I taken the photographs for work. Still I had a lovely time driving around in a cart they lent me on a stunning day.

This just a sample to make you want to take up golf... Actually it is a mad thing to do.

    Hi L.Paul,

That's a very nice club and setup. You got good compositions… even including
    some sea!

I tried with #2 to achieve more brilliant colours like most golf clubs go for
and succeeded some interesting results similar to the ones I did last year
with a jpg. I hope your not giving your shots to a profit oriented organization!

These 'new' portrait format pictures are as good as the earlier landscape format shots. Well done.

Just need to tell the gentleman in #7 to get that right elbow up a bit.

You are right #2 could do with a little more punch in the sky - can't have it looking as boring as it actually was,,,,
The club is run on a shoestring with a lot of members coming to working bees on projects on the course. So if I help by taking photographs I feel I can avoid doing any hard work.

I was asked if I could include a few golfers - personally I think we spoil the look of the course (well I certainly do). They had a women's team tournament the other week and in my opinion some of them actually enhanced the look of the course. Unfortunately the weather was very overcast and the lighting flat and uninteresting.

Thanks for your comments Donald. I will pass your golfing instruction on to the gentleman. What fee will you be charging?

I think you did a great job in both formats... I do like the landscapes a little better but that may be because it makes the fairways look wide and that is very important to me when I'm golfing.

Your assignment has been successful LPaul, nice shots that are enticing. I thought that might have been a "selfie" in 7.

Good work, Paul. They don't make me feel like playing golf but I do feel a desire to laze in the sun.

I'd clone out the black object on the right of #3.

Well done and quite stunning photos and I am sure your golf cub will be pleased by them. However, these are the sort of images I find appalling to see for the next seven months, until the return of some green in my bit of the world. I suppose there is little hope of your not posting more?

Thanks Art, yes fairways should be at least as wide as long if not wider and they should all have a down hill slope towards the greens. For some reason I find that landscapes including golf courses generally look better in landscape or panoramic formats.

Jim I am glad you like the hidden sun scene but it was impossible for you to know that I took it before golf started not after. Some would assume I could not even use a tripod after a few hours in the club rooms...

Thanks Dave. No selfie. When I was in Australia two months ago the number of young women I saw hugging a kangaroo with one arm while using a cell phone to take a selfie with the other was incredible.

Greg it is a very sane response to prefer lazing in the sun than trying to beat sense into a poor little ball.

I did not even yell smile. I arrived almost to late to catch the sunrise and actually drove my car directly to the spot I wanted to take the photo from. It was certainly a beautiful morning.

You realize you make this request after taunting me all our winter with photographs of beautiful golden fields bathed in sunlight with dilapidated structures that remind me of how much work I need to do on my house.

Thanks Izzie. The shots you like certainly have the most interesting lighting. Always a key to most photography.

Yes Ken, if headland in shot #2 and #6 has cloud over it we can't play golf because it is raining and if it has no cloud over it the rain will be there in the next few minutes. The sunny appearance is entirely due to the magic of photoshop so I am glad you like them...

P.S. It never snows here and temperatures under about 8 deg C are a rarity. What's it like down south?

Both the landscape and portrait series look good to me Paul and I'm sure they will be pleased.

No 5 is stunning, and 6 & 7 need reversing in the series

Just a minor point, the horizon in No 6 could do with levelling and a check of the verticals in No 8 at a larger size as it appears it needs a slight ACW rotation, if they are for publication.

    Thanks Grahame.

Yep, #6 actually needs a bit of lens correction (slight pin-cushioning) but the true horizon is pretty level. #8 was taken from an odd perspective but I reluctantly agree it would benefit from a perspective/verticals tweak.

My club is pleased as they sent another of the photographs to NZ Golf who are currently using it as the main photograph on their Facebook page. It gives my club a bit of promotion.
