The Tamar Valley
Help and advice please. I have taken a series of shots to make a large panorama from a local viewpoint. The first image was as you may expect very wide and narrow. I have saved a copy of the image but compressed the width quite a bit. Does it work ok or does it look completely unnatural? Thanks
Andrew

Re: The Tamar Valley
For me, it does work and nicely shows the patchwork of small fields with different crops which is typical of this area. But I would have preferred a clear day without the cloud shadows.

Re: The Tamar Valley
I like the clours and patterns in the image very much If it was my image I would crop the sky and the dark hills at the BG and leave only the green fields with patterns in the frame.

Re: The Tamar Valley
Looks good, I agree with Binnur though... try cropping the sky.

Re: The Tamar Valley
Ok thanks for the comments everyone, it was something I had never considered. ( I guess I always try to cram as much into any image as possible) I have cropped how I think you suggested and here it is]

Re: The Tamar Valley
I prefer the second version because the large shadow in the lower right area anchors the image so much better.

Re: The Tamar Valley
You have done well Andrew, but for me the un-cropped version is superior. It shows the viewer the source of the lighting causing the shadows and variations.

Re: The Tamar Valley
I like both versions equally... Did you shoot this pano with your camera in the vertical (portrait) or the horizontal (landscape) position?

Re: The Tamar Valley
I like the uncropped one better. To me it gives a sense of finality to the fields, a sense of new wonders beyond.

I like the crop, especially when I viewed it in the lightbox

Re: The Tamar Valley
Thanks for all the comments. I guess it does show that in photography there is no wrong or right only different. I prefer the Un cropped version personally because it shows the whole environment and setting whilst the cropped version is almost more like a patchwork pattern. Richard asked the camera position and it was landscape. With hindsight it would have given me a shot with better dimensions I guess if I had moved to portrait. Thanks everyone as always.

Re: The Tamar Valley
I like the image. I think that by illiminating the sky completely it will be a striking image. Oooops, I missed the second shot.
