Re: Some Fly's
All good shots with plenty of fine detail.
Looks as though the first fly is well filled with eggs.
The second has an interesting mouthpiece. Looks too hairy and heavily built for a Mosquito etc so possibly one of the Empis species?
And there are going to be more Sarcophaga flies around soon; going by the actions in #3.

Re: Some Fly's
Yes those red mites are quite common on many species of insects. I think they are Phoretic Mites, but I'm not over certain of the spelling. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://cdn.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/images/smilies2/rolleyes.png)
They aren't parasitic on their host; just hitching a ride as a means of dispersal. Sometimes they congregate in greater numbers. I also find them regularly on Harvestmen.

Re: Some Fly's
I was about to ask about those red mites...
thanks for clarifying them. It sure got my attention first...no, not a distraction. Through sheer ignorance, I thought it was a feature...
#2's antennae is surely attractive. Jailhouse rock orange. Both of these #1 and #2 are very sharp and beautifully rendered. I can almost feel those little furry hair but they are flies, right? They are beauties in photos better not on my food though...
#3's extra curricular activities? No comment...

Re: Some Fly's
Wonderful work yet again David.
No 2 reminds me of that cartoon fly or gnat that's on a canned fizzy health boost drink that we used to see here the name of which I can't remember![Smile](https://cdn.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/images/smilies2/smile.png)
