    Brisbane by Night

For those of you who unaware, I thought I should point out that Brisbane is a very important "world city" and will be hosting the G20 meeting in about a week's time Barack, Vlad, David and co will all be here !

Anyway, thought I'd post a night shot I took last night with the new toy (D610). Any comments welcome as usual.

Nice colours and reflections Dave, I'm not sure about the inclusion of the foreground grass though.

PS. Can you keep Dave there please

I only noticed the grass after I got out of the zoom...overall view I agree with Peter...It is a beautiful shot, Dave...Better when zoomed in lytebox...even the stars are visible.

Good shot, Dave. It really should be viewed in lytebox to fully appreciate it.

    D610? Weren't you a Canon guy?

Peter and Izzie, thanks for your comments. I felt that the foreground grass gave extra depth to the shot but perhaps it hasn't been framed as well as it could have been.

As for keeping Dave here .... well every major country leader will be occupying a complete hotel I believe and this will probably be at we taxpayer's expense ... so probably not !

Thanks Greg. er yes I was a Canon guy but I've jumped ship Those Nikon/Sony sensors were just too appealing ! All my Canon gear is crop factor only so upgrading to FF would have involved new lenses anyway.

If he was you can tell from the photograph he has seen the light or in this case the lights. Great shot and the grass does not worry me.

Hello Dave: I'm going to chime in as well and give my vote to losing the grass. I think the bank on the right side gives enough perspective. Beautiful colours and a very nice sky. I'm from Canada and our guy Stevie will likely be there at the G20 too. Sometimes I think they should all participate in a celebrity Survivor series where each week one leader is voted off the planet. Last person standing gets to be Supreme Leader.

Beautiful image Dave , I love this kind of photography I actually like the colour of the bushes in the FG . I think if you crop the image from right till the further rock, you will get rid of the empty space and all of the rocks will make a better framing. I tried it on my laptop , IMO the rocks and bushes suit the composition much better this way

Folks seem to be focused on the grass? I'm fine with it but if that many folks have their vision of the skyline redirected to the grass I would opt for reducing it by perhaps half. That would reduce the competition with the skyline but retain the depth (which I agree with) that you were looking to preserve, Dave.

Wonderful image, Dave! I like the foreground information because it's a bit unique for this type of scene and nicely contrasts the urban characteristics of the rest of the image.

+1 what Mike said, I like the grass... it kind of feels like the struggle between mother nature and the man made world (if that makes any sense) Great shot

That makes sense to me. However, for me the photo displays less of a struggle between the two elements and more of a peaceful coexistence. Considering that including the foreground information leaves room for two different emotional reactions to it, that in itself seems like a reasonably good argument that the decision to include it is an effective decision.

Thank you Kaye, Suzan, Binnur, Frank, Mike and Matt for your additional comments.

Kaye I think I'll stay out of UK politics !

Suzan, great idea about Celeb Survivor, and it would ensure World Peace too !

Mike and Matt, I too had those thoughts about the contrast between urban and nature in the scene.

Binnur and Frank, I've added a different crop combining both your ideas and I've also included a version of the image without the grass. I don't have a particular preference between these and the original image, they just give a different effect really.
