Barbary ape at The Rock of Gibraltar

This shot was taken on a recent visit to Gibraltar. The apes are wild and roam free and at times they can be very aggressive. All c&c most welcome. Thanks.

With the image which is visible here, the ape seems a bit lost amongst the background foliage; but it looks much clearer and crisper when viewed at full screen size.

Yes it looks better at full screen size IMO it would look good in color, may I ask why you preferred B&W?

Gorgeous image! Albeit I think it would be lovely to see in colour.

That does look like an aggressive individual, Gerry. I think the background needs to be toned down a bit to allow the ape to stand out more, though.

I've been told their aggression is limited to stealing but you can never tell what sets a primate off, strong cologne, eye to eye contact.

Hi Binnur, thanks for your comments. originally I tried a very tight b&w crop of just the eyes which I quite liked, so thought I try the full image. I'll post colour image and would be grateful for your input

John, the day after I took this shot an Englishman and his group were attacked by a group of adult apes, the end result was the guy received a bite to his forearm requiring 40 stitches to a 1'' wound......ouch

Hi Gerry , I certainly prefer the color one, very nice. IMO the whole image is a bit too bright, especially the plants in the BG. I think you can fix it with PP easily

After seeing your post about 40 stitches, it is better to stay away from them

That's very sad, were there any more details regarding the attack?

    Gerry,

I read in a related article that officials believe thinning out the primate population could help stem future attacks.

Yes John , they have just transferred some to Scotland to a safari park not quite ''the wild'' but better than the other option , a cull.
