    Southerness Lighthouse

Teatime, it had been dull for most of the day but just as we were heading back to settle in for the night there was a flash of colour in the sky.

A dash down the beach gave me a chance to grab this shot.

And a fine one it is too, Robin.

I've got a couple of lighthouse images I need to process. Thank you for the reminder!

Good perspective, Robin, the lighthouse looks really imposing.

Good exposure on the lighthouse Robin considering the lighting. I think the rocks to the left help emphasize the the obstruction aspect and need for lighthouses.

That might have been a quick dash well worth it -- I love the strength of the lighthouse against the elements surrounding it...and the lighting is excellent...just right for the shot.

    Thanks for the comments.

Peter we have been staying at Southerness for a few days - in the rain mostly - so my dash wasn't quite as extreme as you might think

Nice image Robin. Lovely light. Kippford, just along the coast is a place we know but I hadn't realised that there was a lighthouse in the area.

Very nice, looks like a very old lighthouse.

    Is it a working lighthouse?

It is the second oldest lighthouse in Scotland - commissioned in 1748 but went out of service in 1936.
