Woke up this morning and the sun was shining in the back door. Besides needing to be cleaned this is what I saw. Nothing about special just thought was interesting and must have been quite an impact.
Ouch. If there is no bird on the deck he probably recovered, or never got knocked out. I've seen them leave feathers on the window before. Sometimes they hit and fly away again and go on with business. Although it looks like this was a good hit, perhaps having hit on a wider area of it's body it didn't take a concentrated hit on the nose. You can put tree netting over your windows if this is a common problem.
If it gets to be a regular problem, then readily available (at least in the UK) cut out silhouettes of birds can make a big difference, and they don't need to be hawks as is sometimes thought. We have a "through lounge" with windows either end and used to be often shovelling up casualties, the swallow pictures have cut out around least 95% of the problem - and since they are in colour they are also quite decorative.
