For me, it is lacking brightness.

I assume this is a misty day; but I usually find that misty scenes need some sort of reference point, normally in the foreground, to ensure that they are obviously a misty scene and not something which has been shot out of focus.

It looks as though you may have sufficient foreground interest, if only we could see it a little more clearly.

Nice effort, I feel that there are multiple subjects within this image, the bird, the mist, and the environment, with the environment being the major subject. In the mono version the bird becomes less important, in fact the bird is sort of a distraction in the black and white version. The lighting of the foreground area helps pull my gaze within the image and the surrounding foliage (on left and right of frame) acts as a sort of barrier or element of mystery. So I would select the mono version without the bird, if the bird were a bit larger or more detailed then I would prefer the color version.

I have to say that I saw the bird first as it appeared on my tablet screen. This affected my assessment. I would tend to agree with Shadowman, but I don‘t find the bird too big or too small.

The first image looks much akin a FPS / adventure game screenshot, well done! The BW makes it brighter hence spoiling the ambience and gloom.

    Hi Raj,

As Geoff mentions, looking at the histograms, the shot is underexposed (by over a stop).

Even if you wanted a lower key image, it might have paid to give a more exposure when shooting, then pull down the highlights and whites in PP, leaving more low light detail for less noise. Although I guess that would compress the tonal range and it isn't currently very noisy at this size anyway.

You have posted png format, which is devoid of EXIF data.

I do like the composition though; the balance of trees at different distances and (I think) the bird adds to the environment. Although I saw the bird immediately, I don't consider it to be the subject, it is an integral part of an image of (what I would call) 'the jungle' (rightly or otherwise).

I prefer looking in detail at the B&W one, although the blue one has more 'atmosphere'.

If I listen carefully to the blue one, I can almost hear the bird

Not sure any of that helps really

Raj, if your selection skills are developed, I would select the foreground flora and boost the exposure
and contrast just a little bit, in the color version. I'm really liking the atmosphere in that first one.

    +1 to Dave's remarks.

    Was the mist blue, Raj?

I prefer the 2nd image because the conversion has brightened the blues

Thanks a ton for your kind review and suggestions. I will surely keep them in mind. I did exactly what you suggested to bring down highlights and whites. I also brought down some of the blacks too.

Thanks a lot for your valuable review. Mist was not of blue color but i changed the white balance to blue and unexposed the scene a little bit as it was approx 10 AM in the morning when i clicked it.
