Amaryllis Emerald - Phase One

Yeah! The Amaryllis Emerald is finally going to bloom!

We got one of these in the Spring but it croaked. The folks at Easy to Grow Bulbs were kind enough to send us another when their Fall stock came in. We wanted to be the first to post this season's Amaryllis.

Chico is getting ready to bloom, but the scape right now is blatently phallic and I refuse to photograph it!!

I cannot wait to see your new lovelies. Emerald is a cybister as is Chico. It will be pretty.

I am envious of you two with your amaryllis-es. Does it only grow indoors? in pots? Can't wait to see both of you and Marie's postings...

Amaryllis can be grown outdoors year round in warmer climes. Frank, depending on how south he lives, can grow outside, but the bulbs are tender. I grow my plants indoors, but during the summer, they live outside or in the sunroom. To compound the whole thing, some bulbs like to "rest" from September/October before being "forced", while other Amaryllis prefer to be evergreen.

Got it? LOLs. Don't worry. In 2010, I started with one amaryllis (Aphroditie) that i got from Walmart.

I will have to do some research...We already have some plants from the outside to the inside each year including my lemons and limes. Hubby will hit the roof if I buy another orchid but I still want a pot cymbidium to remind me of home in Australia -- I grow them like weeds over there in pots too. I haven't had any here...Bill is getting scared of the time I'd turn our house here into a hot house. When we first met the first thing that I asked was -- do you have a truck? Now he knows why...
