    Astrophytum capricorne

It's a cactus flower, from our greenhouse. Shot in natural light. They don't flower very often, or so the Head Gardener informs me.

Very nice, Rob -- this kind of green is a healing colour. I love the framing of the shot too. I want to say much more but I will just end up staring at this....

Funny you should say that, because I found it quite calming to look at as a colour. I thought I was imagining it! Makes you wonder if certain colours in a photograph have a special appeal that might not be there with a different colour in the same subject.

Maybe it is the way you PP it, the colour, the central of the flower -- mesmerizing appeal. One of those hypnotic shots...or my eyes are fooling me...

If you are Lucky the 'usual' varieties flower once a year, more diffucult with the 'unsusual' varieties, but that should be no problem with a your good head gardener. I Always rely on mine
Is it an 'asterias' type ??
    Love the shot.

It's an Astrophytum capricorne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrophytum_capricorne The Head Gardener said it was the first time it had flowered which is at least a year. It didn't stay in flower for long. Thank you for the comment.

I think that's because of the way the edge lines lead out to the edges. That was deliberate composition, of course.

In addition to the composition people have mentioned, I like that it has such nice detail without loosing the softness of the flower. Well done!

Panasonic G3 and the kit lens at 29mm. Just shows you don't always need the top gear! Thanks for the comment.
