Interesting patterns, those crescent shaped black marks are a bit distracting.

Those crescent shaped black marks are twigs I didn't sweep up before taking the picture. Maybe I should go back and thoroughly clean the sidewalk and take it again.

Maybe I should explain a little about what this picture is of.
It shows a fairly fresh patch of sidewalk in front of my in-law's house where the leaves have been cleaned up. These are the oils left by the leaves after they sat on the concrete during our latest rains. If you look at the full sized picture you can see the brush pattern of the concrete surface which tells me it is in fact in focus, even though the 'leaves' don't look it.
    Thanks for looking Nandakumar.

Well! Alan -- I thought by your title of this shot, the leaves are in a frozen path of a lake or something...I thought it is very creative actually to have seen this and took your shot...Thanks for the info.

It looks underexposed and lacking in contrast on my monitor. A B&W photo nearly always needs at least a hint of white and a hint of black. I can find some black but no hint of a tone approaching white.

There isn't any white, the concrete is grey.

Aesthetically pleasing and technically correct are often two different things.

However it is totally up to you as the photographer to decide how you want to present it.
