SLC: reflections in an old dark amber bottle found in the garden

The bottle being bigger than an earring I was able to move back and get a better DoF. The green reflections are the foliage outside the studio. I found the frame enhanced the intensity of the bottle. The bottle is an old three mold bottle with marvelous bubbles and striations but I have not figured out how to light it from inside... yet!

An explanation. The bottle is indeed defying gravity. In the original shot to keep it from rolling away I had to strategically hide a paper clip. After I had taken the shot and lost the sun light for the reflection I noticed that it looked better at the new angle. But the new angle added to the anti-gravity feel of the shot.

However as a life long sci-fi fan I have absolutely no problem with a gravity defying bottle.

Nice challenge, I'm sure you'll get the lighting issue worked out. If you near a window try placing the bottle closer to the light source.

I did try it in sunlight but as much as it looked good to my eye it was not translucent to the camera. But it will work out eventually.

Just a thought on lighting from the inside. Could you find a LED torch and attach a cylinder of white reflective card or foil to the front so as to direct a narrow beam of light into the mouth of the bottle, but out of the field of view of the camera.

You might try backlighting (difficult) or under lighting (easier) Brian.

This glass paperweight was under-lit. It has bubbles and swirls!

I’m not so sure you had the paper clip strategically hidden!

I love it. Back lit gave a great halo but no colour to the bottle. Under lit i will try.

    Hi Brian,

I especially like the softer background, and the colours/tones in the bottle, and also the arrangement.

No experience to offer for how to set up the lighting (softer highlights), just commenting because I like the aesthetics of this image. Nicely done!

Thank-you. I spent a bit of time arranging the background and for once I seem to have got it close to right. I needed to rotate the shot 45* so I had a lot of empty space top right and bottom left even after cropping that needed filling.

Strangely enough for me it is the yellow paperclip that sets the shot off.
