reflection
I took this image this afternoon with the hope of doing something with the reflection. The image was taken at
f9, SS 1/200. I am posting the original with no editing, only resizing and converting to .jpg, and the edit. I would be interested to hear what you think of it. I have been playing with this concept a bit lately and I am still not sure if I should pursue the idea or not. The concept is to making an image from the reflection.

Re: reflection
I think it's worth pursuing, also try some sunset shots.

Re: reflection
You did a good job finding a piece of art in the relatively dull original image! I think the effort is working with your creativity.

Re: reflection
I like this kind of image, Rita. I indulge in it myself when the circumstances permit. You can achiever very different results depending on the time of day and the amount of wind - which is only stating the obvious. I think it is certainly worth persisting with.

Re: reflection
Go Go Go Rita. It is an image whose only limitations are where your imagination will take it. If I may make one suggestion? Perhaps this is the shot to to explore some of the options in your software you have not got around to yet?

Re: reflection
John, I hadn't thought of doing sunset shots like this but they could be interesting. I will keep it in mind next time I do sunsets/sunrises.
Nick, thank you. Yes, the original is a dull one. The only reason I took it was for the reflection .
Thanks Greg. I can imagine the interesting effect a windy day would have, it would be pretty abstract.
Hi Brian, as I am slowly learning photoshop I have a lot to play with. I actually did try some effects on the image and some of them were pretty strange....oh, pardon me....unique I see from your recent posts that you are doing a lot of experimenting too.

Re: reflection
Hi Rita. Your edit is very creative and I like the painterly look very much. Please keep trying different things, I think this is what makes photography interesting and addictive.

Re: reflection
I think this is definitely worth pursuing, this particular image is quite nice but the composition is not fully there for me.
Its almost as if there is a mirror down the middle and its reflected the other side. (If you can understand that )

Re: reflection
I love this idea and I think you should definitely pursue it. At first looking at the original shot I thought no, don't pursue but then when i saw the edit I quickly changed my mind.
There is a lesson to be learned here, I usually just bin shots like that but beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder! Top job

Re: reflection
Why would you not pursue this style of photography?
The only suggestion I can make is that you compose the photo at the time of capture as you did in the final crop. Doing so will allow you to make a much larger print of the image than you would otherwise be able to make.

Re: reflection
Rita it is a fun technique that I have tried and failed at but you seem to have a knack for it. I like the image and the possibilities are endless. I look forward to seeing more.

Re: reflection
Binnur, thanks for the feedback. You are right, experimenting is interesting and very addictive. There is no end to the possibilities.
Thanks for the comment Matt.
Thank you Chris. I have had a lot of images binned but I try and get out of them what I can. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't but I find it is good practice for editing.
Mike, appreciate your feedback. The only place I could get this was out on a small pier. Since I got my new camera in Nov I still only have one lens for it and it wasn't long enough to get the composition like I cropped it. I am saving up for another lens and I can't wait to get it Having only one lens does stretch me though, and, makes me look for different ways to do things
Thank you so much Barbara.

Re: reflection
hi Rita,
Just to say, yes! Definitely worth pursuing. I adore the look and feel of the edit. (artsy, soft colours and focus)

Re: reflection
I have to go against the grain here a little bit...I like the first shot. It shows us the overview of the scene as it was at the time. It is not often that we can see a reflection of something then think of what we wanted to do with after. It is a general shot but the scene shows the calmness of the moment. The edit is the result of that original shot. (Or was it another shot?) Good job on both counts.
