Does have a painterly effect, however closer to a daguerreotype print. Nicely processed.

It's a very different presentation and I like it. Are you overlaying textures? I do like the dark mood on this one.

One of his first biographers said he 'died as miserably as he lived'. I have the rare privilege of living with someone who not only knows what is good within my heart but also knows how to make me need to try to bring it out.

Indeed I am. Gimp has both a Bump Map and a Canvass effect which I applied in this shot. Just the mood I was trying for.

if I could find the right thought for this shot I would add it (with your permission) to your long running thread.

Thank-you. The inspiration came from an online art history course I am taking.

Through a lot of trial and error.

The rose was at the perfect wilting point.

In Picasa I played with the crop, tint, shadows, and framing.

Gimp allowed me to process the basic shot in two distinct styles and then to depth merge them. I also used Emboss bump map and Canvass overlays. A little bit of adjustment in layers, curves and colour balance as well as saturation and after a while this shot emerged.

The other important piece of pre and post processing happened in my mind as I tried to imagine how to take a 17th century painting technique into my 21st century photography. The Renaissance painters did know a thing or two about colours, light and how to create a mood.

I just looked 'daguerreotype' up. I am glad that I didn't try the original process. Question, all of the daguerreotype I saw were B&W could you do them with colour?
