I hope you kept the driftwood, I do
There is a tacit agreement among the residents of Hornby Island that natural flotsam and jetsam is to left on the beach. It is an important part of the beach ecosystem even if it looks inert. Since my mom and sister live on the island I respect their wishes. I also agree with them.
The man made detritus is removed as found and this is actively encouraged.
Logs thrown above the "normal" high tide line by winter storms are exempt from this prohibition because they then become part of the forest ecosystem and are less biologically active. Their rules not mine.
I like both subjects..wood and rock. There is a subtle face on the rock too as I can see...the lighting is excellent and the sharpness is too good that you've captured the curvatures of the wood itself.

I like it Trevor, but I am a wood fetish
That is one beautifully weathered piece of wood.
I liked it; i think a fill frame image of the wood would give a better view of the texture on it
I like how the large rock and driftwood complement each other with regard to color and shape. Great eye for noticing the nice background provided by the shadow areas!
I'd like the large rock to be positioned a bit lower so the male-female relationship between the shape of the wood and rock is emphasized. I would also like to see more space around the two subjects, as they feel a bit cramped. I understand that other objects in the scene might have made that impractical if not impossible.
Good point about the position. I moved the rock and driftwood to compose this; perhaps i should have seen this potential position. Something to consider.
I cropped down from the original to emphasize the wood so I will recheck to see if I like a wider crop. The beach is reasonably uniform, no nasty stuff to avoid. Just shot this tight to isolate the two things. Bit of a rush to shoot it as the light was rapidly vanishing.
Beautiful
