Three shots from this evening... (Night Photography)

Ok I went back out into the dark again, I was a little aprehensive because this place is in the middle of nowhere but as soon as I started shooting I forgot about it all C&C much appreciated!

Firstly a shot just after the sun went down (I processed this on my macbook in the car while I waited for it to go dark ):

Then these are 2 shots when it was completely dark... I took a number of shots from the exact same place, I am going to try the stacking technique but haven't found any free software for the mac yet.

I realize that you went to this location to do night photography, but I just have to mention that I really like everything about the first photo.

Apart from that horrible watermark down in the bottom right .... (Sorry, Matt, can't stand them)!

Well done. These are, I think, very good. The light painting has worked particularly well. You've got a nice even spread of light where it's needed.

Thanks Mike, I had set up the camera ready for the night shots and then I spotted this beautiful pink light so ran about 1/2 a mile to take it, warmed me up though

Thank you Donald, the light painting took a few attempts to get right and it attracted a few ducks! Well I couldn't see them but they made a fair bit of noise

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE #2! The colors, the swish cloud, the stars, I could go on and on! #1 is also stunning. #3 for me is a little too much light on the tree but still a lovely shot. Can I come visit? You live in incredible surroundings!

I lke the 2nd shot, Matt. That is a great time of day when the sun is fading over the horizon and the blue in the sky has deepened enough to reveal the stars. Looks like you caught a comet in there too

Nice set, I see you are working on getting some foreground exposure within your lowlight shots.

    very nice images.

Since you are starting on night photography, you might find a book of tips by a night photographer to be helpful. There are a number, but one that I have used is Mark Bowie's The Light of Midnight, available as an e-book here: http://www.markbowie.com/shop/books. I took a workshop from him, and I found the book very useful even afterwards.

Everyone I know who does night photography sticks with base ISO and longer exposures for most shots. A cheap way to do this is to use the bulb setting and an inexpensive cable remote release, which you can buy very cheaply from eBay. I did that for a while, but I eventually splurged on an electronic release with a programmable timer. It allowed me to escape the mosquitoes, and it avoids the risk of accidentally shining a light when you look at your watch, etc.

Thank you Barbara, you are welcome anytime! Although I must warn you, it rains A LOT! The place I shot these images has one of the largest communities (if thats the right word) of Red Kites in the UK btw.

Thanks Dan I shall check that book out, I do have a remote shutter release and I was going to do a few extra long exposures but time wasn't on my side, hopefully its something I will try on the weekend.
