Last September we went on the famous Waterfall Walk at Ingleton in Yorkshire. At the top is Thornton Force. OK it is not like Niagara or Yosemite, but it is one of the best waterfalls in England.
There is a difference of opinion as to how one should photograph waterfalls. Do you capture the separate drops falling (with a fast shutter speed), or do you blur them (with a slow shutter speed). This must be a subjective choice, but I include this to show how I like my waterfalls. The exposure is 1/160, f/7.1 and ISO 400. At this distance, it does show the water breaking up and not blurred.
The waterfall was not the easiest to photograph on that day. The waterfall itself was in shade, but the trees to the right, and the rocks on the left were in the sun. I did think about cropping, but I think this gives the setting for the waterfall that a crop would remove.
If you look carefully, you can see a couple of lads behind the waterfall. In my youth (that would be nearly sixty years ago), when I last visited, I did the same thing myself!
