I am processing some shots I did while in Oz recently and I came upon this one...her face is messy close up but just like any other child...she doesn't want her activity curtailed by rain...I am very biased but I find her very funny....

Let me turn the question back to you, as you've already done a square(ish) crop on the shot. What is the shot about. Does the space above the girl buy you anything, or would getting closer end up doing more for you (that might be your strategy if it is all about the child).

If it is about the child in the environment, you might leave things as they are. If it were my shot, I'd be tempted to crop off the top 20% or so, as I don't think it buys you anything compositionally (just above the word (Anik(a)).

It buys the upper part of the negative space for the child to look toward. I almost always prefer a relatively tight crop, but not in this case. I would leave that part as.

However, I would crop a little bit off the right, leaving only the first "A" in the bottom "Anika." Doing so leaves the upper space for her to look toward and provides a relatively greater amount of space to the left to look toward. Doing so also places her face and hands on the imaginary vertical lines that divide the image into thirds. That makes the composition feel really natural for me.
