Ewes & Lambs

Went out to shoot some landscape but the sky was overcast so I thought I'd take a few shots of the lambs and their mums running about... They were very hard to catch! Some of the shots are a bit blurry as the light wasn't the best so I had to use a slower shutter speed, hope to get back up there tomorrow.

C&C Welcomed.

#1 - This was the only lamb to say and "shout" at me!


#2 - Notice the nosey sheep in the next field trying to get a peak to see what all the noise is about


#3 - I tried to sneak up but they all ran back to their mothers when they spotted me!

I know from experience just how difficult it is to get farm animals to pose correctly.

A pity that you couldn't have managed a faster shutter for the 'lamb race' because otherwise it is a perfect photo.

Not sure about you being able to get better weather tomorrow but it looks like improving in a few days. But I have found that bright sunshine can be just as taxing for lambs due to potential over exposure hot spots. Lightly overcast can sometimes work best.

I tried some young cows today but I don't think I'm going to get very far once I try to edit the shots. Black and white animals are always a problem; and as soon as I got my camera out they all moved from the ideal composition to see if my camera was edible.

However, I did manage some highland cattle recently so I will upload those soon.

When I want to stop the action, I stop it. Period. If I have to use a larger aperture, a higher ISO or both, I do it. If I have to use noise reduction because of noise created by a high ISO value, I do it. But whatever I have to do, I stop the action. Alternatively, you could have used a much slower shutter speed to create an obvious sense of motion. Anything in between stopping the action and creating obvious motion blur renders an image that is unattractive to my taste. More important, your comment indicates to me that it's apparently the same for you.

The composition of that last one is terrific! If it was mine, I would lower the white point and I would adjust that side of the curve to add a bit more pop without sacrificing the nice mood you've already established.

I don't think I'd ever risk getting between a ewe and her lamb. You never know what might happen.

That's a cool set, Matt. Poking around farmland isn't a bad way to spend a day. Unless you have a shovel in your hands

There was always a fence between me and the sheep, I've had sheep charge at me before while taking landscape shots

Great set Matt, good to see these wool balls in their natural environment. That last one is a lovely composition.
