    Drone-Fly and Wasp

Two from yesterday, the Drone was very hard to capture due to windy conditions, I ended up holding the Rose branch it was sitting on and shooting one handed, needless to say this was the only frame that was a keeper the wasp is building a new nest, in a spiky bush after a dozen puncture wounds this was as close as I could get! C&C Welcome as always

Both very well done. I like #2 better because of the perspective.

    David these are great shots.

I think, however, there is a color cast in both shots. Enough that it may be having an adverse effect on the true color of these insects.

Could just be my eyes glazed over though!

Cheers Terry, #1 this is exactly the color it was, it is more golden than I have ever seen one, this is what caught my eye.

    Normally they are like this!

    Drone-Fly and Wasp

As for the wasp, this was shot well inside the green bush so if anything there might be a slight green reflection coming from the leaves, but she also was a lovely yellow color! Neither image has had any vibrance or saturation added

I do like them both, but in different ways. #1 is a fine record shot of an interesting mini-beast. #2 is a great portrait!

Don't try to change the colour of #1 David.

Myathropa florea shouldn't look like Eristalis tenax should it!

Wasps are always very protective of their nests. Hornets aren't so difficult so you can usually get a bit closer without too much trouble and even then they will give you a warning buzz beforehand. But those pesky wasps . . .

    Wonderful, both shots David.

I love images of these wasps when they are staring at you, remember it's not the ones you can see when looking through the viewfinder it's their mates behind you discussing their attack strategy

    Cheers, Grahame

    Re: Drone-Fly and Wasp

OK...I didn't have my fly swatter with me today...I have my bug catcher but I didn't catch any bug at all, but I did got a spider. Not as close as this one though...One day I will be able to get closer when I use my pixel peeper camera. At the moment what I was able to grab was the D300s so you'll have to grin and bear my shots in a separate post...

Anyway, I am with the fan club of the wasp shot. I like the colouring of the drone fly too but having you had suffered so much for your art, I like the pose of #2 best between the two...unique...
