    Macellan in the mirror

This is an old JPG image, I don't have a raw file for it , but I wanted to edit it because I like the composition. I can't spend a long time on editing my raw files for the time being because I'm house moving The image is noisy but I didn't reduce it very much because the water becomes creamy and I don't like the look of it. The water is a small stream with full of boats, the banding you see on the water is actually the oil which comes from the boats.

So, apart from the noise, I would like to have your opinions about the composition and conversion

PS. As soos as I uploaded the image I noticed that I forgot to add the border I intented. The house moving distracts !!

What makes this work for me Binnur is that little highlight on the upper superstructure that is only visible in the reflection.. My eye immediately goes to the boat but is then dragged back into the frame by the highlight. Unusual but it works.

Thanks John Cropping the real boat and leaving only the reflection works too, but because my eyes didn't go out of the frame I left the image as is. IMO a border would make the image look neater , but I forgot to add it

The conversion is nice, more details can be brought out of the reflection and the tires; as presented the Macellan logo dominates the composition.

It doesn't work for me because of the large amount of negative space in the lower left area.

Thanks for commenting Mike . Unfortunately there is some negative space in the image as you mentioned. I will try a square crop to see how it works in order to lessen the negative space

    Binnur,

I would concentrate on the reflection so that you add more of a leading line, also enhance the highlights of the tires so it keeps the eyes moving.

Thanks for commenting John Although I prefer the second crop to the first crop, I also still like the original one despite the negative space. So, I will play with the image a bit more to see what I can do better

PS. I might as well crop the real boat to put the emphasis more on the reflection.

I cr0pped the real boat and left the reflection only. I think I will re-edit this image with a clear mind after house moving . It is not a good thing to try to edit images at hectic times

Instead of a dark image, I will try to create a brighter and more interesting look when I 'm more relaxed and I will start another thread for the image. I will also use SEP2 instead of photoshop because I really like the sliders in it and I can be more creative with that software. Because I have been in a hurry these days , I didn't want to spend a lot of time on the image and I edited it with PS . So, the result is an ordinary image. Lesson learnt!

Your compositions are generally so easy to comprehend and like. That's unlike this one, which I have to sort of fight to like because the negative space isn't doing anything for me to improve the image; it's just negative space.

I agree with you about the first crop...but I still like the original image...it has a lot to think about in a way...

Good luck with the move. You are the second one mentioning a move today -- Christina is moving too...

    Re: Macellan in the mirror

Hi Mike, actually the negative space didn't bother me until you mentioned it and I agree with you that cropping the image didn't reduce it very much. As I said to John above , I will re-edit the image and try to give a sort of high key look and I will try to put the emphasis on the reflection. Because the water is blue in the original color image,I think using a blue filter and increasing the exposure and some other adjustments will help me to give the look I want to the image. So, I hope , everywhere in the image except for the reflection will be negative space and I hope it will look good, I will see what I can do with SEP2 At least I know what to do to do image and when I can concentrate better, I will re-edit and upload the image into another new thread. Thanks again for warning me about the negative space

Thanks Isabel, I liked the original until Mike commented on the negative space, I think I still like it in some ways but I will try to find a solution with PP to make the image look better later

Thanks for wishing me luck about the move. And good luck to Christina too
