Cardiff RHS Flower Show

We had a day out in Cardiff today for the RHS flower show, my favorite shot of the day - no crop - slight ev compensation for highlights and tweak on contrast is pretty much it

Nice composition, not enough highlights to emphasize, perhaps increase the midtones to balance out the shadows.

Not sure about this one. Theres more out of focus image than in focus image.

John, okay, have increased the midtone highlights a fair amount in this one, how does this look ?

Matt, was my intention to have just the one flower in focus the rest was close to show shape but wanted them OOF, not for everyone but works for me

I think the midtone highlights bump helped but I'm fine with the focus.

I am fine with the composition. It is a different point of view than what one normally sees. In fact I was looking at a shot yesterday called "different perspective" and I imitated it in one of my shots this morning... I will upload it later on...

Beautiful frame and eye! I like the focus and especially the curved catch light coming off the one petal. Very well done!

in the same vein as the Tulips, Ranunculus - this is jpg out of camera, just re-sized it for here

I like the use of depth of field in both photos.

However, even in the revised version of the second photo, it appears to be way too dark. I would lift the middle of the tone curve and drag it considerably strongly in an imaginary line that is perpendicular to the starting line of the tone curve. Doing so will considerably brighten the overall image without blowing any highlights.

These are beautiful shots. I think the balance of focus and OOF is just right. I do prefer the Ranunculus.
