Nice ones, Richard; although I'm not all that fond of the last one with the selective blur. I find that images with blurred foregrounds tend to not work for me all that often.

It brings back memories of our visit the the Golden Temple in Amritsar, last October. We found the Sikhs to be very friendly. When they found out about that we were Canadian, virtually everyone we spoke to told us that they had a relative living in either Surrey, BC or Brampton, ON.

Shooting at the Temple, and meeting the members was a unique opportunity to learn more about the cultural and personal aspects of the Sikh people. I have always had a deep curiosity about other cultures that had me become VP of the Fort McMurray Multicultural Society. I could go off on a rant about multiculturalism in Canada but I wont except to say it is a deep and contentious topic. I enjoyed myself immensely on this shoot and plan another soon, the hospitality was wonderful. Thanks for looking Manfred and for your comments.

Totally agree. We Canadians "claim" to embrace multiculturalism, but then only on our own terms.

What I find particularly sad is that to a large extent, multiculturalism is well accepted in the major cities; although there are pockets of bigotry everywhere. This is of course where people from different places around the world tend to settle and they bring a cultural vibrance to these places.

I find that the highest level of resistance to people from other places tends to occur in more rural areas of the country, where there is little to no presence of other cultures, save perhaps an Italian of Chinese restaurant. Talk to the locals and some seem to exhibit an absolute paranoia about being overrun by "foreigners". My wife and I get a real chuckle when we inform these folks that both of us are immigrants having settled in Canada when we were children. That usually shuts them up quite quickly.

Interesting set Richard the first and second images are good but...the selective blur in the last one just doesn't work for me.

I'm not sure if there's an issue with images link to Flickr photo streams but I see duplicate images here am I the only one seeing this?

Manfred I agree with you. There is a lot more I could say, but this is a photo forum and perhaps I've said too much already. I have seen racism in Asia between Asians, it's happened in Africa, remember Rwanda? Racism comes in many colours. Hope I didn't light a short fuse here.

That's OK Peter, as I say Vive La Difference, I did a series of these selective focus thingies that largely was well received. Your comments re; Flickr...I'm not sure what you mean as the Flickr site is where I link my images and they are all under my copyright. If I am doing something wrong please advise me. I notice one post on Flickr of a wedding party that appears to be duplicated, it was posted as part of an online conversation regarding EV and cropping. Thanks for the heads up, I will remove it. Thanks for looking and commenting.

I have spent a liftetime traveling all over this world and I believe that Canada is incredibly accepting of different cultures, and I certainly don't find rural Canadians paranoid about being overrun by foreigners. That particular statement appears to be nothing but self serving hooey - trying to show how enlightened you are compared to rural folk.
I knew I would regret this post, should have listened to my gut. PLEASE lets end it here with my apology for raising the subject in this photo forum.

Richard sorry I don't think I explained myself very well regarding images you have posted here via your Flickr pages. When I view this thread using an iPad I see two of each image. However they share the same file name so I'm not seeing two discrete versions of an image rather I seeing two copies of the same image.
It could be a quirk with the tapatalk app I use on the tablet but I suspect it's something to do with Flickr and the CiC forum software as I don't see duplicate images on other photography forums.
    I hope that makes sense?

No peter, the plot thickens. I wonder if it is your app as you first suggested. Is it happening with others you track on Flickr? Please keep me posted.

    Re: Sikh Temple

Very strange I'm now viewing this thread via PC and I only see one of each image so it must be an issue between the Tapatalk App and this forums software as it don't see this issue when viewing other photography forums using Tapatalk and my iPad.
