    The Oak Barrel

While trying to learn the filters in Analog Efex Pro , this image came out. I also used some other filters and PP tools in the edit. It was just for practising but because the image didn't seem bad to me , I decided to upload it. How does it look ?

Thanks for the C&C in advance

Nicely done. What is the darker tone around the left and top?

I like most of the post-processing, especially everything that emphasizes the texture. I'm not fond of the pinkish tones but that's just related to my personal preferences.

Just out of curiosity, are you certain that the barrel is made of oak? I ask because I wouldn't be able to tell unless I could closely examine the grain and most of the grain seems to be covered by dirt.

It comes from the filter effect I used in Analog Efex Pro John. IMO some of it next to the top frame can be erased with some opacity for a less strong look. I too noticed it after your comment, thanks

Thanks for looking and commenting Mike , I'm glad that you liked the image generally. The tones can be adjusted to one's taste anyway

I took this image on a small island near where I live . It is a touristic small island with full of vineyards and there are a couple of small wine factories there. This barrel stands on the street for a symbolic reason and I think it is one of the oak barrels which was used for wine production. As far as I know the barrels for wine production are made of only oak trees, aren't they ? The cars are not allowed on most small streets of the island, that's why the barrel stands on the street.

If the barrel was used in the production of wine, you're right that it is almost certainly made of oak.

Nice effect Binnur, I still haven't got around to trying Analog Efex yet.

Thank you Matt I used some other filters in CEP4 too for the image but the old look comes from the filter in AEP. You can have a look at AEP shortly as it is not a very complicated part of the Nik Software. It is good to know what PP possibilities there are in the software , as it might be necessary to use them one day

I just got into Analog FX the other day and I did not do very well with my image then...but this one is good. I too like the old look in it. It tells more of the story of the shot, why it is there in the street and what it once was used for...Nicely done...

    Re: The Oak Barrel

Thanks Isabel I used some other filters and PP tools too for the image to achieve the look I want. Also, playing with the sliders in the filter effects might be helpful. IMO same look can be achieved without using filters too, but my goal for this edit was to get to know the AEP and also to experience some other filters in CEP4.

Nice image Binnur. I have not tried AFX yet. It might be worth exploring to try and remove the funny colour casts in some of my old microscope pictures. The effect and Nik's control points may well be a good combination.

I like this effect - guess it's time I start to experiment with Analog FX.

I like the image and your PP. It gives it an age appropriate look, especially with the stucco walls behind.
Unless cedar is available (or redwood, which is highly unlikely) I would easily bet the barrel is indeed oak.

I like this image a lot but I am not sure about the pink overtone. Have you tried it with a sepia?

    Re: The Oak Barrel

Thank you very much John,Kris, Dean, Jack, Rita, Dave and Nandakumar I'm glad that you liked the image.

Rita, I have no problem with the toning of the image but I see what you mean . So I will also try a ' sepia tone' to see how it works as Mike and you find the toning a bit pink . IMO it will look nice and I will keep both versions in my files. Thanks for the suggestion
