    Tree Swallow In Flight

Recently i have been trying to photograph tree swallows in flight. They are extremely fast and they contrast with the bright Wyoming sky. The result is that I have much less time to get into trouble doing other things. Here is my best effort so for.

That's an excellent shot Chuck. I have a hard time time shooting against a bright sky too so I often use +1 EV which seems to work.

You need to PM Christina and let her know! She loves these little critters and photographs them as well.

    Nice shot!

Chuck, this is wonderful, one of, if not the best shot of a swallow in flight. I know that this is not an easy task to accomplish, well done.

great capture , a little more pp may bring out a better background and sharpening may enhance the details

    Well done Chuck,

I find these types VERY difficult and haven't got a shot as good as this myself yet.

For those interested, the EXIF data: Nikon D810, 200-400mm, f/4 lens at 380mm, Shutter priority AE, 1/3,200 sec, f/7.1, ISO 800, Exposure Compensation: +1.

    Cheers, Dave

I, too, have tried to get these birds and am yet unsuccessful. This is a great one! Not only did you get it unblurred but also captured the irridescent color. Very nice.

Thanks for all your comments. And Dave, thank you for posting the EXIF data. The shot took me about 15 hours including studying the behavior of the birds and then getting the shot. I was afraid I would use up all the available electrons. :-) I'll keep trying to get some more.

    Re: Tree Swallow In Flight

    Hi Chuck,

    Incredibly beautiful capture! Stunning!

I've managed a few but none flying into the frame like this (:. I was out this morning trying to photograph these birds, and came away with just one shot but it is too, small in the frame.

I can't make any sense of their flight patterns/behaviour so if you have any tips to share I would be most appreciative.

In which case I need over 10 hours more study and practice
Clearly I give up too easily!

    Well done, Dave
