    Nature

Kindly share your C&C on my following shots. I have used layers for the 1st time in processing these pics. Not sure whether I succeed in doing this or not .

    Thanks - Tejal

Looks a lot better at full screen size; but yes, I agree about a crop of #2 to reduce the amount of plain sky.

Hi Tejal Dark looking birds in a foggy scene seems a bit strange to me. Did you darken them deliberately ? I would brighten them a bit if the image was mine.

Tegal ... I do not know what editor you have but I took your first image and opened it with an adjustment layer/curves above it and immediately I saw a problem that it didn't occupy the whole of the range of tones. I brought the black and white to where the layer was showing and the result was similar to your revised version. I believe from what Manfred has written recently this is something like organizing the black and white points in Adobe but since I do not use Adobe I cannot be more specific.

I follow this process of checking my black and white levels in most shots I take and usually following the programme's suggestion improves the shot. I often do this when thinking about shots I see here on CiC.

further tried something to hopefully explain myself better since I doubt you have my editor
placing the color picker tool over the dark wing of the left-hand bird I get a reading of 38 and off the sky 178 .... the adjustment layer corrections change this to 0-255 ... we are reading on a scale of 0-256 from black to white The correction makes the birds' darker and the sky whiter

Thanks John for the information. I have done processing in photoshop. I am not so good at processing and here for the 1st time I used masking. It seems I failed in doing it properly. I will practice more on this. Thanks once again

Tegal ... I only saw your finished image, working off the original would probably be a five second job following my suggestion, in your case adjusting the black and white points, but I have forgotten how PS works if I ever really knew things like that back when I had PS. Thanks to Manfred's explanation of doing it in PS I realized what I was doing in my editor.

Original looks more interesting. If you plan to work on monochrome conversion, consider only working on foreground area, leave the sky as is.

Tejal, I suggest that you shoul read the tutorials of CinC under the title 'Tones and Contrast'. Here is the link. They are very useful to understand curves and levels in PS
