#1 - Ramadan Kareem. A post sunset photo of a shop front on Road 9 (an expat shopping street) in Maadi Cairo. With Ramadan commenced today, the Ramadan lamps were hung out for sale in preparation for this most important Muslim occasion.
#2 - The Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha. Located within the walls of the Cairo Citadel, this beautiful mosque was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha who was an Ottaman Commander and defacto ruler of Egypt and Sudan through to the mid-1800s.
#3 - Contradiction. Having had the chance to live in Egypt for a few years it truly is a place of contradictions. Amongst the hundreds of thousands of high rise dilapidated apartments you find a Hugo Boss placard.
#4 - Mother Nile. They say once you have drunk the water of the Nile, you will always come back. The building in the background with the green sheeting is the Headquarters of Mubarak's New Democratic Party that was burned out during the 2011 revolution. It is about to be demolished so I'm glad to have this photo for posterity's sake. The venerable Felucca remains the Nile boat of choice.
