    Jumping Spider

Exploring macro photography a little bit more recently. Found this tiny little guy in the house. Set up a little mini studio and had some fun.

    C&C welcome.

    Thanks John.

Haha Izzie I just do this because I love it. I can't wait for summer to come back so some of the larger spiders are out. This little guy was so tiny.

Good shots of a subject which is always pleasing to see.

I find they are usually moving around far to quickly to photograph. When I do get lined up on a subject - one jump and gone.

Excellent shots Tobias, some of the sharpest and best exposed I have seen. Great job

    Re: Jumping Spider

    Hi Tobias,

They are good, although I must confess to being distracted by blown highlights in three of the four shots.

As I view now, the last one, oddly labelled "- 1" is OK, but the others; - 4, - 2, and -3 in order, all have some areas where the highlights have blown out in order to give good exposure of the subject. I don't know whether you have tried to bring them down, but I appreciate that sometimes it doesn't work well and the results (in my experience) can look worse than the blown highlights - but perhaps I'm just no good at it!

I am always amazed at your ability to capture these tiny critters so well.

I know Toby...before I knew Mr. Bugman from Turkey, I never knew what they are nor seen one. When I did, I noticed some on the back of my dog and pointed it to hubby. He immediately grabbed a tissue and got them off Roxie's back and tossed it in the bin. I never realized how small they really are...so there goes my opportunity to acquaint myself with jumping spiders. I should have kept my trap zipped. I was watching a little shiny bug swimming in the dog's bowl outside thinking of the many ways I can photograph it and here comes hubby, saw the swimming thing and tossed the water out and changed it for the dog. Should I go along with that or get rid of my husband?

    Re: Jumping Spider

    Thank you all.

Geoff, the ones I find around the house tend to just sit for a while so they are fairly easy to shoot. It's also winter here so they generally move a little slower.

Dave, thank you for the tips. The number order is how I edited them but I uploaded them in order of how I like them
Now that I look at them again I do agree that some of the highlights are a little blown out, it didn't bother me before. I think next time I will look at placing the spider on the other side of the leaves which are not shiny. I will also keep a closer eye on the background. Hopefully this should control the blown out areas more.
Thank you for the tips and compliments.

Izzie, you can always try shoot them and then toss them out :P
They are extremely tiny I agree. Here we do get bigger ones in summer though, probably about double as big as this little guy so I am looking forward to that once summer comes back around.

Very nice Toby, or should I say flipping nice Izzie these little guys are my favorite Spider, most of the time time they are happy to let you click away, they are very curios little critters and more often than not jump on you or your camera gear if you get to close

Yes...Mr.Bugman from Turkey??? You're late! Did I wake you up with my comment??? I was hoping you'd come along to comment because you know I'm that bug-no-ramus around here and just want the image to look at...it is summer here so lots of bugs soon...well, I have to push Bill out of the house to the hangar so I can find one he will not squash in front of me...that shiny thingie on the water yesterday would have been a good trade but it didn't happen...competition shots from Toby here for you...be afraid...be very afraid...

Haha David this I have not experienced yet. Then again this was the first time I shot these guys. But I can imagine them doing this in summer when it is a little warmer.
